Forming Habits

One of the things I struggle with the most in my daily life is forming a good habit. I have this concept in my head of how I can make my lifestyle healthier. Many times, I've attempted to fix my sleeping schedule but here I am doing my work at 4 AM. It usually ended up only lasting 2 or 3 weeks before I end up staying up late again. I used to work out at least 5 times a week, which lasted about 3-4 months before I stopped. Maybe some day, I will have the discipline to keep my habits and not just randomly break them.

  1. Forming a habit takes discipline and patience. Breaking an existing habit takes both and perseverance. This article may shed some light and help: https://www.healthline.com/health/how-long-does-it-take-to-break-a-habit

    Small steps/successes lead to larger goals/successes :-)

  2. Oh, Daniel! I truly empathize with you. Simply having the concept in your head without ever acting on it is dangerous. Tell me if I am wrong: at 3am you organize the next day. You say you're going to wake up at a reasonable hour, make breakfast, organize yourself by doing your school work, skip the TV, and go to sleep at a reasonable hour. It never happens that way, does it? Then, you tell yourself you failed. You have the discipline NOW to form a habit. Do not pack on habits. There is no such thing as "priorities". The definition of priority is a single thing regarded more important than the other. Focus on ONE thing at a time and do not load on more than you can chew because at the end of the day, your mental health is what matters.

  4. I find it hard to form habits as well. I think it makes you human. I've been telling myself I'm going to start taking my dogs for a walk more frequently and going to the gym, but hear I am with no time in the day. I think habits start with time management.

  6. I always plan things, but then I always end up procrastinating and pushing it off for the next day. My sleep schedule isn't terrible, I head to bed at around 11 pm but stay up till around 1 am.

  8. An old saying my dad always tells me when he sees me stay up late to do homework is "you can stay out with the crows, if you can wake up with the roosters" and that just means that if you stay up late you'd better be ready to get up early.
